I recently replaced the taped-down linoleum shown in the top picture with sections of 1/4-inch black rubber matting seen at the bottom. Besides a nice facelift and softer on the feet, it covers more of that ugly 9-inch-square, white and green floor tiles than before.
Big shout out to my son for the matting!
