The most recent upgrade to the Google Chromecast enabled your TV's pause and play buttons to control playback of your casted apps. Much easier than fiddling with your smart-phone for these basic ,need-to-tinkle functions. This magic is accomplished by a TV feature called HDMI-CEC, which most newer TVs support. Worked on my Vizio TV after enabling the CEC feature (off by default) and letting it discover any attached CEC-enabled devices. Also found out that my DVD player has CEC support, which I didn't realize.
One step closer to "One remote to control them all", truly a worthy goal.
