The latch on our patio gate rubbed hard enough to scratch off the paint making it unsightly as seen on the left below. Instead of painting it every few years, I used four six-inch long pieces of black Gorilla tape to hide the scaring. It remains to be seen if this hack is the final solution, but for now it's ten times better.
